Whether you are in New York, London, Paris or Munich, if somebody asks you where are you from, you reply with proud “I am from Nepal” but suddenly after his another question “what is Nepal?” you become sad and start to search the reference of India and China. This article intends to give the proper answer of the question.

—————————————————————

First know about some points:

Mount Everest and other mountains

The highest mountain of the world Mt. Everest is in Nepal. It is the part of Himalaya range in high asia. Not only this, among the top ten highest mountains of the world: Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. K2 (8,611 m), Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), Mt. Makalu (8,463 m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201 m), Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m), Nanga Parbat (8,125 m), Mt. Annapurna (8,091 m): except two, Mt. K2 and Nanga Parbat, all rest eight mountains are in Nepal.

Gautama Buddha

In this world more than 324 million people has the belief in Buddhism. Gautama Buddha is the founder of Buddhism. Just like Jesus Christ was born in Israel, Lord Gautama Buddha was born in Lumbini zone of Nepal.

Nepali People

Nepal has a population of more than 26 million, made up of over 40 different races and tribes. Mongol looking Kirati people, Sherpa people residing in high altitude, Newar, Tamang, Magar, Gurung and Thakali peoples having their own history and culture, native Tharu, Rajbanshi and Satar people of Terai regions, Maithil, Bhojpuri, Musalman and Brahman and Kshetri wherever they live in Nepal, all are Nepali. Nepali people is the mixture people having of several culture, complextion and belief. No one single people can represent whole Nepali people.

Geography of Nepal

Nepal has the area of 1,47,181 square k.m. slightly larger than Bangladesh or the state of Arkansas of USA. Major parts of Nepal are covered by mountains and hills, but there are not only hills in Nepal. Almost 50% of Nepali people live in Plain area also called Terai.

For a small country, Nepal has great physical diversity, ranging from the Tarai Plain — situated at about 60 meters above sea level in the south — to the 8848-meter-high Mount Everest. Thus Nepali climate is very diverse. Within less than 1 hr drive you can pass from 0 Degree Celsius temperature to 35 degree. Thus as many people think, Nepal is not only a cold country.

Culture of Nepal

History of Nepal

King Prithivi Narayan Shah (1723 - 1775 A.D)

During the year of colonization many countries like India, USA, all country of South America used to being controlled by then European superpowers. Nepali people always feel proud to say “we never been colonized by any world powers, we are always free” and It’s true. Thts why nepal doesnot celebrate freedom day in any specific calender day. Nepal’s history goes back almost 9000 years. It was King Prithivi Narayan Shah who re-unified Nepal in 17th century and gave the shape of now Nepal. During this period Nepal has enjoyed almost all types of governing system, sometimes strict monarchy, sometimes constitutional monarchy, and sometimes republic.

Democracy of Nepal

Though sometimes our rulers tried to supress the words of people, but Nepali people never feel scared to support the democracy. We may alive without food but not democracy. That is why whenever nepali people wanted they have changed the system.

———————————————————–

Nepali People without their history and culture can no longer alive. If there is Nepali there is democracy. And every Nepali love each and every part of their land more than their own body. We cannot distinguish Nepal, Nepali people, Nepali land, Nepali history, Nepali culture and Nepali belief form each other. Neither Nepali people alnoe are nepal nor Nepali land only is Nepal.

Nepali people, culture, geography, entire land, history, Mt. Everest, Lumbini, our temples, our freedom and our belief in democracy… all things are one Nepal in aggregate. In front of our great presense of culture… reference of India and China almost worth nothing.
